The toughness mentioned in the ‘Lack of equipment‘ section is very evident in how Ugandan youngsters play football.  They clatter into each other, making me wince at the thought of the pain, only to then crash into the rock-solid ground…but then get up laughing!  So different from kids in England, whose pain threshold seems to be non-existent in comparison.

It makes me wonder how professional players like a certain Mr. D. Drogba, who must have grown up playing in similar circumstances, went from this to the (admittedly great) player he is today – one who rolls around on the floor when he gets within three feet of an opponent!  I also wonder what fellow Africans make of this…
