Arsenal 5 Spurs 2
The Sunday saw us go into town to join the throngs in the local hostelry to watch Arsenal destroy Spurs 5-2. The place was packed – it was great to see nearly all the locals rooting for the mighty Gunners. We were amazed and pleased in equal measure to see how passionate and knowledgeable about the team they were…Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain warming up on the touchline was greeted nearly as loudly as each of the goals.
We were told two different reasons for Arsenal’s popularity here. Firstly, the number of African players over recent years and secondly, this part of the country apparently first got access to the channel that shows the Premier League back in 2004 – the Invincibles season. There’s probably some truth to both.
